Is WordPress Hard to Use? Skip the Overwhelm Here

by

If you’ve ever asked, “Is WordPress hard to use?” – this post is for you! Take a seat.

It’s one of the most common questions I get asked from graphic designers and creatives looking to dive into my Learn WordPress e-Course. They want to learn how to build their own website, or they’re keen to learn WordPress to expand on their skillset and income potential – but they fear feeling overwhelmed.

At first glance, WordPress can look a bit scary. So many buttons. So many settings. It’s maybe not instantly intuitive like Canva or Squarespace. But here’s the truth…

WordPress is only hard to use if no one’s shown you the simple way.

Once you learn what to ignore and where to focus, it’s not hard at all. It can actually become really fun and simple to use to bring your design ideas to life online!

Does WordPress Feel Hard at First?

When you first log in, it feels like a dashboard full of jargon. Posts, pages, plugins, settings… ahh! Don’t worry, that’s normal.

Most of us aren’t taught how to use WordPress properly. So you end up Googling for hours, clicking random buttons, or giving up entirely.

But when you’ve got someone to show you how it works – step by step – everything gets so much clearer.

So, is WordPress hard to use? It may feel that way at first. But it doesn’t stay that way for long with the right support.

WordPress Beginner Tip #1: You Don’t Need to Learn Everything

Here’s something I remind my students all the time:

You don’t need to know how to use all of WordPress to build a great website.

You just need the basics to begin with.

Learn how to create a page. Add an image. Connect a contact form.

You do NOT need to learn code to use or become a master of WordPress!

You can grow your skills from there – but don’t let the idea of “learning it all” hold you back from getting started.

WordPress Beginner Tip #2: The Right Tools Make It Easier

When people ask me “Is WordPress hard to use?”, I always say: not if you use the right tools.

Drag-and-drop page builders like Divi or Elementor make WordPress feel simple and visual. You can build pages like you’re using Canva. No coding. No tech headaches.

I show you how to use these tools in my free WordPress training. And once you know how to use them, you’ll never go back! Knowing which tools to use in WordPress can make a massive difference to keep things feeling simple and do-able.

WordPress Beginner Tip #3: You’re Not Too Late or Too Tech-Challenged

Think you’ve missed the boat? Feel like you’re “not techy enough”?

Please don’t let that stop you!

If you can send an email or edit a Canva template, you can learn how to build a WordPress site. Truly.

WordPress is not hard to use when it’s explained in everyday language. That’s exactly what I do inside my free training.

WordPress Beginner Tip #4: Start Simple. Learn As You Go.

The best way to learn WordPress is to actually start using it.

Create a practice site. Try things. Break things. That’s how we all learn and get better at using WordPress! Don’t be afraid to play.

That is exactly how I got started too – and now 13+ years later, I’ve used WordPress to build hundreds of beautiful, modern websites that convert for my clients.

You don’t need to wait until you feel “ready”. You don’t need everything to be perfect. You just need to start.
